Annie Lennard Primary School

Equality Objectives/ Policy

As a school we welcome our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 to eliminate discrimination. We celebrate differences and support each other so that everyone can reach their full potential regardless of their age, disability, race, religion, beliefs, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, sex or sexual orientation.

Everything we do as a school is guided by the following principles:

All members of our school community are of equal value and importance

We see all members of our school community as equal regardless of the differences between us. We ensure all governors, staff, pupils, parents and carers are regarded as of equal value and importance whatever their gender and gender identity, whatever their ethnicity, culture, national origin or national status, whether or not they are disabled, whatever their religious or non-religious belief or whatever their sexual identity.

We recognise, respect, embrace and celebrate our differences

Our policies and practices take account of those differences to ensure that all members of out school community are treated equally, and our differences are recognised and respected. This means that we make adjustments wherever we need to. We make time to fully celebrate our differences and to recognise how those differences make us such a vibrant place to learn, work and grow.

We foster positive attitudes and relationships and a shared sense of community and belonging

We intend that everything that happens within our school will develop positive attitudes towards all people whatever our differences may be. We promote positive interactions, good relations and dialogue between all groups. We are all a part of this school and by working together we ensure success for all.

We observe best practice equalities practice in recruitment retention and development

We ensure that our polices and practices benefit all current and future employees whatever their age, whether or not they are disabled, whatever their ethnicity or religion and whatever their gender and sexual identity.

We aim to positively reduce and wherever possible remove any barriers that exist between us

As well as seeking to ensure that our polices and practices remove any possible inequalities between members of our school community, we strive wherever possible to take steps to positively reduce and remove any barriers that already exist between us. We seek to ensure that all members of our school community have access to a full range of academic, cultural and social opportunities regardless of their background, life experience or background.

Our current Equality Objectives are:

  1. To ensure that disadvantaged children are performing as well as other children within our school.
  2. To ensure that boys and girls are performing as well as each other within our school.
  3. To raise children’s awareness of the impact that discrimination on the grounds of gender, race and sexual orientation can have on individuals, prior to them moving to senior school.
