September Re-opening Information

Dear Parents, Carers and Pupils

It gives me great pleasure to be writing to you all with news of us opening in September. I have been through all the guidance from the local government formulating new plans and risk assessing. I am now in a position to share information with you. There will be some changes to what you are used to however things will be more normal than I could ever have hoped for.

Children in Year 1 to Year 6 will return to school on Wednesday 2nd September 2020. See the table below for the times of each year group. Reception and Nursery will have been given a start date in a separate letter and will have also received a phone call informing them of this date.

Across the school we will be forming phase bubbles, with these bubbles children can mix with no social distancing required and can share resources. However, these bubbles cannot and must not mix with any other bubble.

  1. Nursery/ Reception

  2. Year 1 and Year 2

  3. Year 3 and Year 4

  4. Year 5 and Year 6

To aid with bubbles not mixing we will be operating staggered entry and exit times.

Where there are sibling groups, pupils in different classes can be dropped to their classroom door before their drop off time, the door will be open – however at the end of the day pupils will not be dismissed early if they have siblings in other year group that finish earlier, this is to ensure they do not miss anymore teaching time. Parents will be asked to wait (in a socially distanced manner) for the children to be dismissed.

Entering the school site

  • There will be a one-way system around the school site. They will enter using the main entrance, follow the arrows. The bottom reception gate will be locked to push the flow of traffic out up the pedestrian entrance. (Down the drive, through the blue gate side of the staff room to the left down the steps, past year 1 classroom, down the passage side of new build, across the playground, then up the pedestrian entrance to exit the grounds).

EYFS can use the gate by Nursery to enter and exit EYFS playground. They will then exit back up the drive-way. A member of staff will be on the pedestrian entrance on the road to ensure no one enters site this way. More staff will be on the carpark to aid direction around the school.

  • Only 1 parent is allowed to drop off or collect their child, as per government direction.

  • Parents will be advised to either walk, cycle or drive to the setting – no travel by public transport, if public transport is needed they must wear a mask

  • We will be encouraging parents to contact the office by phone or email. Where this cannot happen and they need to come to the office there will be a queuing system in place with clearly marked 2m spacing between each person. Only one adult in the conservatory area at a time and they will have to stand behind the taped line.

  • Hand sanitiser will be available in the conservatory area, visitors will be asked to use it before they touch the signing in machine, or use the table etc…

  • No parent will be permitted into the building. (not even to use the toilet)

  • Staff will patrol at key times of the day to ensure that parents are following one-way system, not congregating and breaking 2m distancing rules.

Classrooms

We no longer have to distance the children from each other. Where possible all windows and doors should be open to aid ventilation – H&S permitting

  • Entering the classroom – pupils will be welcomed one at a time, they will sanitise their hands on the door, go and put stuff away, once all children are in then handwashing will be organised.

Each classroom will have

  • Own first aid equipment

  • PPE in order to carry out first Aid (gloves, face masks, aprons)

  • Cleaning products for increased cleaning through the day (anti bac wipes, anti bac spray, disposable cloths)

  • Hand wash/ soap and antibacterial gel for increased hand cleaning

  • Tissues

  • Lidded pedal bin for disposing of tissues and cloths used for cleaning. (must have a bin bag in that can easily be tied up)

  • Staggered drop off and pick up times

  • We ask parents not talk to the staff member on the door when dropping off children and to keep 2m away from the classroom door, if they need to pass on message speak to the office or bring a note with them detailing what they want staff to know.

  • Drinks bottles will be placed on their table not on the drinks trolley

  • There will be 2 adults to a room

  • Where possible children will not share equipment with other bubbles. Toys and equipment should not be used by another group until they have been cleaned

  • When collecting children, parents will queue in designated area – 2m apart and wait until their child is handed over to them.

  • KS2 all pupils will be facing the front

  • EYFS & KS1 will all face the front when on the carpet and at tables where possible

  • Staff however where possible need to keep 2m distance from each other and pupils. Staff need to avoid prolonged close contact with pupils in their bubble.

  • Staff can work across multiple bubbles.

  • These bubbles will use the playground at the same time, Dinner Hall and will have the same entry and exit times.

  • Each phase bubble will have a designated toilet, this will help cut down on groups sharing facilities.

  • Open doors and windows where safe to do so to aid ventilation

  • Children will each lunch in the classroom

  • Children must remove face coverings on entry to school. They must remove themselves, put in plastic bag and sanitise/ wash hands immediately.

Playground – main

  • Climbing apparatus will be allocated to a bubble (Blue Year 1 & Year2, Red to Year 3 & Year 4)

  • Children will use the same area with their bubble only

  • Children can sit in groups.

  • Each bubble will have their own playtime/ outside box that is only used by that group (for example - skipping ropes, paper, pens, chalks, bean bags, books, games etc…)

  • Entry back into the building will be staggered and through the doors that are directly on the playground.

Children’s Toilets

  • Each toilet will be designated to a specific group, this will be clearly labelled so children know where to use. (for the time being toilets will be mixed gender)

If a Child becomes ill

  • If a child is ill and parents need calling, a message should be sent via teams to the office.

  • Once they have been collected the pupils desk needs to be cleaned – whoever is cleaning needs to ensure PPE is used. (gloves/ mask/ aprons) and then wash hands thoroughly.

  • In the event of a parent being delayed, child needs to be quarantined (adult in PPE)

in event of illness will now have to use the staffroom and member of staff are to wait with pupil at a distance until collected. Pupil to sit by open window and it is possible for member of staff to sit over 2m away. Room to be disinfected immediately after being vacated.

  • School has a digital thermometer in order to be able to check temperatures of children if they are saying they are feeling unwell

  • It is vital that we have up to date numbers for all contacts on our system if anything has changed please let us know asap.

    Cleaning – increased

  • Cleaners will be in twice a day at least if not all day (morning – before school and lunchtimes) concentrating on toilet areas

  • At the end of the day after the children have gone tables and chairs need to be wiped down with anti bac wipes or spray

  • Each room will have own cleaning resources for frequent wiping of tables and resources throughout the day

  • All cleaners must wear PPE when cleaning – including emptying bins

What does my child need to bring to school? (very little)

  • Small bag for reading book and homework book. Each locker will be 30cm x 30 cm x 40 cm, Children will be keeping their coats and school bags in these lockers, therefore bags need to be smaller than the above dimensions. (bag must be able to fit in their locker – if bag doesn’t fit then you will be asked to send your child with a different bag).

  • Drinks bottle (or 2) under the guidance we have had to remove our water machine so we are asking you send your child with more than one drink.

  • Sandwich box/ Bag for dinner time

  • Healthy snack for breaktime

Your child will not need to bring anything else to school. School will provide everything else they need.

School Meals

From September we will be able to provide a cold lunch provided to us by SIPS catering. Throughout Autumn 1 we will not have a hot meal option.

Sandwiches will be delivered for those wishing to buy a meal (paid for via parent pay), for pupils who are in receipt of free school meals and for children in reception, year 1 and year 2 that fall under the universal free school meal scheme.
