Year 3 School Closures

Update: 26th March 2020

I hope that you are all doing well and staying safe. While you are all at home, there are still things that you can do to help with your learning. All of you have logins to Purple Mash and Curriculum Visions that you can use. I have set some activities on Purple Mash for you to explore. All you need to do is log on and check your 2Do list.  We have also started a battle on Times Table Rockstars with Year 5 which is lasting for a week so please log on and help out! If you would also like to send me challenges on there, then please do.

There are also a number of different websites that you can also use for free:

Don’t forget to practise your reading at home. I have added to the resources list some recommended reads for you to help you find something new to read. If you would like to, you could also write a book review to add to our Bookflix board when you return to school. A copy of the Year 3 and 4 spelling words are in the documents list if you wish to practise some spellings too.

Home learning Project – Canals

In the summer term we are going to be doing a local history study based on canals. For your homework project I would like you to begin to research the canals of Birmingham. There is a deep and rich history about the canals of Birmingham (fun fact: there are more canals in Birmingham than Venice!). This can be presented in whatever way you choose, including a poster, leaflet, PowerPoint presentation, models, etc.  Your research could include:

  • What is a canal?

  • Who designed the first canal?

  • What were canals used for?

  • How are canals used today?

  • Who designed the canal lock? What is their history?

We hope that you all stay safe and well and look forward to seeing you soon,

Mr Smith, Mrs Stevens and Mrs Wildman
